‘Content is King’ our daily mantra

Published by : PDM on 01 September 2018

Back in 1996, Bill Gates declared ‘Content is King’ in an essay he wrote and published on Microsoft’s website. Since then this phrase has become iconic in the world of SEO and digital marketing.

SEO and digital marketers are repeatedly preaching ‘content is king,’ and as cliché, as it sounds, content really is king. Bill Gates began by saying: “Content is where I expect much of the real money will be made, just as it was in broadcasting.” Needless to say, he was right, this is a realistic expectation in modern business.

Content Today

The evolution of digital marketing has totally transformed the way a business interacts with customers. Content marketing, a form of marketing, has created the opportunity to create, publish and distribute content but to also provide ‘value’ and ‘personalisation’ to the audience that the content is intended for.

The Future of Content

As uncertain as the future is, what is certain is that content is evolving and transforming into a different form of content that is considered to be immersive (a three-dimensional display surrounding the user). Thought-leaders have considered that immersive content will rise as a result of the sweeping shift in technology such as augmented reality (AR), Virtual reality (VR), mixed reality and 360. If this proves to be true, it is inevitable that a new wealth of content creativity surrounding marketing and technology will emerge. I would like to conclude that we do not know if the content will remain head of the marketing throne but we are certain that it will go through a transformation. At the present moment, content is king. Here are what 8 Thought Leaders on the Future of Content Marketing have said at the fifth annual marketing conference ‘Transition 2018.’
