What good is a website if it cannot be found in the search engines by searchers? This article talks about why having a website is simply not enough and the importance of Search Engine Marketing.

Why having a website is simply not enough?

Many businesses invest money in the creation of a website and stop there. Most often enough when this is the case, it means that the website is hosted somewhere and can be seen by users if they manually type the website address in the address bar of their internet browser, but they would have to know it first. Typically, it will be relayed to them through word of mouth or displayed on a business card. Great, that works, but is it enough to reach a broader amount of people for the target market?

Search Engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, and many others exist to provide a service for people looking for information or products and services. According to Smart Insights, ‘The number of people using search engines is increasing year on year, the number of daily searches on Google alone is 3.5 billion, which equates to 1.2 trillion searches per year.’ (2018). According to Internet Live Stats, ‘There are over 1.5 billion websites on the Worldwide web today.’ If a website does not have Search Engine Marketing working for it, it will be missing out on huge potential website leads and customers.

The importance of Search Engine Marketing

Modern and contemporary website design processes are essentially associated with branding, information architecture and content. However, none of these elements considers who, what, why, when, and how people are searching the website; Search Engine Marketing does. Search Engine Marketing is all about user intent and meaning. What do people intend to look for, who are they (the type of audience), why do they intend on buying/leaving a particular product/service, when are they searching and how are they searching. With this type of analytical detail in place, an SEO marketer can mine the data to work to your advantage, such as, provide relevant information and tailor search results to your user-needs and website needs. The result of including Search Engine Marketing to a website can only be beneficial, especially, when carried out correctly and ethically by a professional.
